Safety Tips
Personal Safety
Barbados is considered to be a very safe destination. However, you should always take reasonable precautions and use common sense to protect yourself.
-
Don’t leave valuables in plain sight, in an unlocked car or room, or on the beach.
-
Lock doors and close windows when leaving your room or car.
-
Avoid beaches and unlit areas at night.
-
Maintain the same level of awareness that you would at home.
-
Report any harassment to a police officer or to your hotel manager.
-
Make a note of the Barbados emergency numbers: Police 211; Fire 311; Ambulance 511.
-
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Q.E.H.) is located in Barbados’ capital city, Bridgetown, which is located in the parish of Saint Michael. The main general hospital for the southern part of the island, Q.E.H., is 13 miles (21km) away from the Crane Resort, which is approximately 30 minutes’ drive.
Beach Safety
-
If uncertain about a swimming area, check with your hotel first as there may be currents. Stick to beaches with lifeguards on duty if you are not a strong swimmer.
-
Please exercise caution in the water, especially children.
-
Some beaches are bordered by manchineel trees. Avoid standing under the trees or touching the fruit, as the white sap produced by the tree is a skin irritant that can cause blisters. Such trees are typically marked with red spray paint.
